Deep Jewels 30 Results

Over the weekend, Tomo Maesawa defeated Hikaru Aono via submission and went through with her retirement plans. The fight took place mainly on the ground, as Aono, a former collegiate wrestler, was able to repeatedly take the match to the ground. As Aono was able to get the better of the takedowns, she was winning the first two rounds win Tomo caught her with a guillotine choke as Aono shot in on a single-leg takedown. In defeating Aono, Tomo retired as the divisional champion and the promotion is now planning a tournament to crown a new champion. With a majority of the veterans in Japan currently fighting for other promotions (Rizin, Pancrase, One FC, UFC), Deep Jewels will need to take advantage of their young roster of fighters to build a new star. Likely fighters are Sakura Mori, Hikaru Aono, and Mizuki Furuse.

In other matches of note on the card, the above mentioned Sakura won by submission and the popular ex-yankee Momoka Yamazaki also picked up a win by decision. I bring these two up because Sakura brings a lot of fans with her when she fights and at 17 years of age, she has plenty of time to continue to develop her skills. Momoka on the other hand is a popular fighter, she often appears in youtube videos and was in the news when she was assaulted by a drunk man at a convenience store and she detained him until the police arrived.

In a final note, AACC continues to impress with their new pool of young fighters as the 27 year old Mikiko won her pro-debut by TKO. Most will be familiar with the gym for such fighters as Ayaka Hamasaki, Megumi Fujii, Rena, and Hitomi Akano, but a new generation is emerging and already holds the Deep Jewels Strawweight and Micro-Weight titles.
