Deep Jewels Flyweight Tournament in the works

After Deep Jewels 34, Deep and Deep Jewels president Shigeru Saeki announced his plans to hold a flyweight tournament next year. The tournament will likely include 8 fighters, prize money, a belt, and some interesting participants. Related to the tournament, Saeki also dropped some hints about a high profile talent he has signed. He didn’t say who, but he hinted that the person comes from a prestigious background, making some wonder if it is an olympic level athlete or something similar.

The tournament will likely include Kate Lotus, Micco Nirvana, Shizuka Sugiyama, Yukari Nabe, and this mystery signing. While Saeki commented that he would like to include foreign fighters, he further elaborated that there really any fighters available nearby. So that means there is room for 4 more Japanese fighters. With this being the case, the obvious question being raised by some, is whether Rin Nakai will be included. Other possible participants include Yurina Horiguchi, Aoi Kuriyama, Te-a, Shoko Fujita, Namiko Kawabata, and Amiba.

Saeki on the tournament

“Next year, I’m thinking of holding a flyweight tournament. Kate Lotus, Micco Nirvana, Shizuka Sugiyama, and Yukari Nabe…I’m thinking that I want to have some prize money and a belt on the line. A lot of the fighters are on the same teams, so I’m going to have to work around that.”

“I’m thinking of doing it in March and May or May and August, since the schedule for Korakuen Hall has finally come out. First, I need to get some prize money together (lol). What I’d really like to do is invite some foreign fighters from somewhere like Korea, but there aren’t any.”

Saeki on the mystery signing

“To tell you the truth, at today’s amateur tournament there was supposed to be a special debut, but we weren’t able find an opponent. We’ve got someone amazing. This person is such a different level than the amateurs that they are probably just going to make their pro debut in December. They are so good that I don’t think anyone will accept a match at the amateur level. I had to apologize to them, I looked all over for an opponent. This is a hidden gem that is likely going to make their pro debut in December. Depending on how that goes, I think they are a great talent that can challenge on the world stage.”
