Suda submits Kiryu; Deep Tokyo Impact Results

This past Saturday, Deep held two events at New Pier Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Among the fights of note, Moeri Suda took on Yuko Kiryu, Kashimura took on DJ Taiki, Yugo represented Breaking Down, and Tencho faced off against Nomura. These events were available to watch live by subscribing to Deep’s Youtube channel. In the future, these fights will also be streamed live on U-Next.

Suda submits Kiryu, moves to 8-4

In the sole women’s bout of the evening, 18 year old Moeri Suda, who just graduated from high school, faced off against Yuko Kiryu, who had to cut over 9kg in 2 months for this bout. With both Moeri and Kiyru coming off losses, it is fair to say that both were motivated to get back in the win column and while Kiryu has started competing in grappling competitions since her loss to Hime, it was not enough to stop Suda’s aggressive submission game as she succumb to a rear naked choke early in the 2nd round. Interestingly, even though Moeri already had 4 submission victories on her record, this is her first non-armbar submission, perhaps showing some development to her already impressive grappling game.

DJ Taiki proves age is just a number, defeats Kashimura

In the main event on Saturday night, 21 year-old up and comer Jinnosuke Kashimura squared off against the 40 year old veteran DJ Taiki. Ahead of the fight, Kashimura has been training at Sierra Longo in New York and came to international attention when he competed on a Road to UFC show last June. DJ Taiki on the other hand, hasn’t been super active of late and was coming off a loss to Coro last year, where they fought for the interim Deep bantamweight title. Having made his pro-debut in 2004 and competed in Deep, Dream, Pancrase, Shoot Boxing, and K-1 over a 50+ fight career, it is safe to say that Kashimura and Taiki are at different phases of their respective careers.

DJ was able to use calf kicks, strikes, and ground and pound to pull of what many thought was an upset, defeating Kashimura via unanimous decision.

Nomura tops Tencho

While DJ Taiki may have shown that age is just a number, Nomura showed that the young generation is always knocking at the door, defeating Rizin veteran Tencho in the process. At 25 years old, Nomura is now 5-1, with his only loss coming to current Rizin fighter Patrick Usami. Tencho on the other hand, has now lost 5 of his last 6 fights.
