Erika Kamimura Produces Womens’ Tournament

Former Rise star and multiple time world champion Erika Kamimura is producing a womens’ tournament for Rise. Titled the Rise Girls Power Queen of Queens 2020 Tournament, the tournament will take place over two events between 8 fighters. The quarterfinals will be on October 11 at Kanagawa Pia Arena at the Rise Dead or Alive 2020 Yokohama event. The semi-finals and finals will take place on November 1 at the Edion Arena in Osaka at the Rise Dead or Alive 2020 Osaka event.

The tournament will be at 47.6kg and will consist of 8 fighters. So far, the only confirmed participant is Rizin champion Momi. When speaking about the tournament, Erika stated: “I was wondering if there could be more opportunities for girls to play an active role. What I want to know, is among all the champions, who is the strongest? My question is genuine, and I’m asking those that think they can be the true lightweight champion to enter, that is all that they need to decide to enter (whether they can be the strongest). That is it.”

Erika made it clear that she is looking for fighters from all around Japan, she wants kickboxers, Shootboxers, Muay Thai fighters, anyone who thinks they are the best to enter. The tournament is open to people from other promotions and gym affiliations. Anyone can apply to be part of the tournament. As an incentive for the tournament, Erika has secured a 3 million yen prize for the winner from Rise. In addition, there will be rewards for knockouts ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 yen. Not one to pull her punches, Erika admitted that the prize amount of 3 million yen disappointed her, but if the tournament is successful, Rise stated they would be able to offer larger prizes in the future. She initially asked for 5 million yen to be the prize.

When asked about potential entrants, Erika stated that she wanted Hinata Terayama (who has stated she wants to enter), Misaki (who has stated she wants to take part), Saya Ito, Ai Tanaka, and Megami from Shootboxing to take part.

Recently RIse has been doing very well, they have built a number of stars, some of which who have appeared for Rizin, and it looks like they are looking to continue building stars.
